Testimonials and Resources

From the mouths of mothers:
This December, My husband and I were lucky enough to have Chelsea Fredlund as our birthing doula at Sutter Davis birthing center, for our all natural water birth. Her expertise in counter pressure and massage therapy was essential in providing comfort and pain relief during the birthing process. The baby was in a posterior position (her head was against my spine) so I was experiencing extreme pain and "back labor," to where it was extremely painful to sit, lay down, or even go to the bathroom; I couldn't even concentrate on my contractions, the pain was so bad. I was emotionally and physically exhausted, and needed help with the pain, but I didn't want to use drugs, so my Midwife suggested I call in a doula. Chelsea was called in at 10 am, and immediately began helping me in every way possible. She was ever vigilant in providing counter pressure, to relieve my back pain, emotional support, and simply making me and my family feel informed and at ease. For the entire 7 to 8 hour experience, she never stopped providing support, even if it was simply accompanying me on walks, to massaging my back, to supporting my head while I was floating in the tub so I could get some rest between contractions.  Although we had just met at 10 am that morning, I never felt awkward around her. She has a sweet temper, is non-intrusive, and within minutes of meeting her, we felt like she had always been apart of the birthing team, and we immediately felt at ease with her. We are so thankful that she was able to assist us through our birthing process, and we honestly don’t know how we could have done it without her. Not only did Chelsea relieve my pain, but she helped relinquish my husband and mom of some of the duties of trying to comfort me, in which neither of them had much experience. By having Chelsea attend my birth, she was essential in allowing us to have a calm and comfortable birthing experience in which we got to introduce our daughter Sofia Sue into the world. I felt honored to have her attend such a life changing experience with us, and she made it clear the feeling was mutual. Chelsea is a blessing in every way, and worth every penny. We highly recommend Chelsea Fredlund as the doula for your birthing experience. We do plan on having one more child, and we definitely would love to have Chelsea there!

I delivered my first son after ten hours of labor and my second son in eight hours, both with the help of epidurals. I was therefore prepared to have a quick labor the third time around, although this time I was looking forward to having a natural childbirth with Chelsea’s help. The only problem was that when I felt my first contraction around 2:00 Sunday morning, Chelsea was working in the backcountry in Yosemite and had not made the transition to full-time doula yet. I called her anyway and left a message just in case she had cell phone reception to let her know that I was in labor. During the previous months, I had read stories of women who were able to stall their labors because of an uncomfortable encounter with a doctor or being in an unsafe environment.  My labor stalled until I saw Chelsea through the window of the double doors at the hospital, eighteen hours after I felt my first contraction. I had been walking the halls with my husband trying to strengthen the sporadic and weak contractions when she arrived. I felt extremely relieved that I could now rely on Chelsea, in addition to my husband, to support me when my labor became intense. I had almost enough time to catch Chelsea up on the details of my labor, when the contractions became powerful and I starting feeling pain in my lower back. Throughout the next four hours, Chelsea was invaluable in helping me find more comfortable positions, working with my husband (who was exhausted by this point) to provide counter pressure to relieve my back pain, bringing me water and ice, and providing encouragement. Chelsea’s easy-going character, attentiveness, and consideration for both me and my husband, made her the perfect support person for our birth. I highly recommend having Chelsea be a part of your birth experience!
